My personal take on “beauty” and how it informs my facial treatments.
Hello, luminous soul!
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll have noticed how much I advocate for mental health on all my social channels. If you’re new to me, I’d like to share the journey that led me to a profound realization: true beauty emanates from within.
I’ve come to understand that the key to unlocking your most radiant self lies in nurturing your inner health — body, skin, spirit, and, most of all, mind.
Despite building a successful career as an esthetician, makeup artist, beauty influencer, and entrepreneur, I didn’t always feel comfortable sharing the unscripted version of myself.
Society’s fixation on perfection drove me to conform to what I thought I “should” be. And, for anyone who’s ever had to sacrifice their truth, you understand how detrimental it is to all aspects of your health when you can’t be authentically you.
These pressures ultimately manifested in my life as depression, anxiety, and addiction.
Yet, my breakdown led to a monumental breakthrough.
I started to shift my focus inward toward my emotional and spiritual wellness. This is when I discovered that my highly sensitive nature and creativity were actually gifts — and rather than hold them in, I could apply them in meaningful ways.
The turning point came when I launched my virtual spa series on YouTube. Complexions by Jadé combined skincare education with meditative wellness for a unique multi-sensory experience. Viewers began to share how much my videos were making a positive difference in their lives. It became clear to me:
There’s an intricate connection between mental health and physical well-being.
It’s like when you’re stressed, you might get a stomach ache. That’s how powerful the relationship between the brain and body is.
Chronic stress can make the body’s fight-or-flight response overactive. It results in the release of stress hormones like cortisol, which, when persistent, can contribute to inflammation and a weakened immune system.
If you’re experiencing depression or anxiety, it can impact your heart rate, blood pressure, and sleep patterns. The mind-body connection can even make it so that you feel physical pain more greatly.
This is why I believe when you prioritize mental health it will improve your overall skin health!
Here’s where being a (self-proclaimed “nerdy”) esthetician comes in:
The skin is the body’s largest organ, and I’ve seen how it reflects our inner well-being — personally and through my clientele over the past decade. I always share with my clients that when you address both the mind and internal health, you can achieve optimal skin vitality. I reimagined my platform so that individuals worldwide — estheticians and skinthusiasts alike — could learn about my transformative treatments, which include a 360° approach to wellness that nourishes the soul as much as the skin.
It took me a long time to understand what the word “beauty” really meant to me. Now, it’s my mission to redefine it. Together, we can embrace a different kind of radiance that, for each of us, uniquely comes from within.
With love and light,
Jadé Marie
