The most luxurious facials don’t simply tend to the skin; they engage all of the senses for a transformational experience. Keep reading to discover how I create a multi-sensory journey using sound healing — which keeps viewers and clients coming back again and again. (Not an esthetician? These tips are wonderful for your personal skincare regimen, too!)
The one piece of feedback I hear from clients and Complexions by Jadé viewers is how much they love the meditation aspect of my treatments.
Creating a unique experience has been key to distinguishing myself from other practitioners — and in our modern society, people are craving a chance to slow down in a safe space.
This brings me to one of my favorite tools for inviting clients into a meditative state: sound healing.
Whether you’re a spa professional looking to enhance your services or you’re a skinthusiast who wants to take your at-home routine to the next level, read on for my favorite sound healing tips.
What is sound healing?
Sound healing, also known as sound therapy, is a holistic practice that uses different tones and frequencies to promote physical and emotional well-being. By harnessing the vibrations of specific instruments, this ancient modality aims to balance the body’s energy, reduce stress, and deepen relaxation. (I find they’re beautiful décor in my studio space, too.)
So, how does sound healing work exactly?
Sound healing is based on the principle that everything, including our bodies, is in a constant state of vibration. The idea is that our cells and brain waves start to resonate with the vibrations produced by the healing instruments, encouraging harmony and tranquility.

3 sound healing instruments to try today
Crystal singing bowls
When struck or circled with a mallet, crystal singing bowls create soothing tones that correspond to the chakras. Large bowls give off deeper sounds that resonate with the physical body while smaller bowls produce higher pitch sounds that attune to the spirit.
Quartz crystal singing pyramid
One of my favorite instruments for beginning and ending sessions, the crystal singing pyramid creates a clear, bell-like sound that’s also believed to balance the chakras. What makes this tool distinct is the geometric precision of the pyramid shape, which amplifies its vibrational effects.
Healing chimes
I reach for these whenever I sense stagnant energy in the room. Healing chimes produce gentle, melodic sounds that clear out feelings of “stuckness,” bringing back a sense of flow.
Why you should use sound healing in your esthetic treatments
I speak to many estheticians through the Complexions Community, and nearly all of them agree that, in their treatment rooms, relaxation is just as important as results. There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing we get to provide peace and sanctuary to our clients — even if it’s only for an hour or so.
After providing treatments to thousands of people over the course of 14 years, I’ll even go as far as to say that relaxation leads to better results.
Whether on yourself or your clients, we’ve all seen how stress can manifest itself in the skin as acne, eczema, and premature aging. While I’m a huge proponent of using products of the highest quality and standards, I also believe there’s so much value in curating an experience for our clients that extends beyond what we use topically.
This is where sound healing comes in.
Integrating sound healing into facials accentuates the overall treatment by not only targeting skin concerns but also by addressing the client’s emotional and mental well-being. The harmonic vibrations help to calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and create a serene atmosphere, which can amplify the efficacy of the skincare products and techniques we use.
I often say that estheticians are orchestrators of energy. By creating a restful environment for our clients to let their guard down and unwind, our treatments become that much more effective. When clients are relaxed, their muscles are less tense, blood circulation improves, and the skin can absorb products more readily. Stress hormones also subside, which can lead to more luminous skin.

How to add sound healing to an esthetic treatment
When it comes to sound healing, you have many options for when and how to use it during a facial. Here are my top three recommendations:
- Play healing music in the background for the entirety of the session. My personal favorite is Hz frequencies, which you can find on Spotify.
- Start and end a treatment with a specific sound. For example, I prefer opening and closing my services with chimes.
- Play a healing instrument during a specific part of the facial. Pro insight: Here at the Complexions Skincare Studio, I find that the best time is while the client is undergoing light therapy.
